The Tamil nadu sixth legislative assembly election - 10 June 1977.

All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) won the election defeating its rival Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).


M. G. Ramachandran (M.G.R , the AIADMK founder and a leading Tamil film actor, became the Chief Minister for the first time.


DMK gradually weakened in the years after the previous election due to several splits caused by the exit of many influential leaders including M.G.R due to corruption. MGR supported Indira Gandhi's Emergencies.

it is also said MGR relationship with LTTE is the reason to split with DMK while Neduchehiyan formed Makkal munnera kazhagam.

M.G.R was the founder of AIADMK

He died on 24 December 1987 in his Ramavaram Gardens residence in Manapakkam after a prolonged illness. His autobiography Naan Yaen Piranthaen (Why I was Born) was published in 2003.


Congress-DMK victory in the 1980 parliamentary election and insisted the central government to dismiss the ADMK led Tamil Nadu government like DMK government in 1976.


Despite their victory at the 1980 Lok Sabha polls, . ADMK won the election and its leader and incumbent Chief Minister, M. G. Ramachandran was sworn in as Chief Minister for the second time.

Industrialised states in development after Kamaraj's rule to tenth. He supported rural through irrigation and electricity support felt failed in welfare schemes including liquor tax, His rule was like police state but he overruled police power.


His mid day meal is a successful program still.


He openly supported LTTE and training them in Tamil Nadu and supported them through money


He received Bharat ratna after his death,


He was not allowed well to play his second innings. But he had put his best foundations, though he could have done more to the people of Tamilnadu.
